Shihan Hussaini, Renowned Tamil Actor and Martial Arts Expert, Passes Away
Shihan Hussaini, a distinguished figure in Tamil cinema and martial arts, passed away on March 25, 2025, at a private hospital in Chennai after a courageous battle with advanced blood cancer.
Born on December 28, 1959, in Madurai, Hussaini embarked on his acting career with K. Balachander’s “Punnagai Mannan” in 1986. He went on to appear in several notable Tamil films, including Rajinikanth’s “Velaikaran” (1987), the English film “Bloodstone” (1988), and Vijay’s “Badri” (2001), where he portrayed a karate coach. His recent works included “Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal” (2022) and “Chennai City Gangsters” (2024).
Beyond acting, Hussaini was a skilled karate expert and archery coach. He served as the founder and general secretary of the Archery Association of Tamil Nadu, promoting the sport’s growth in the region. In a testament to his dedication, he once crafted a bust of politician Jayalalitha using frozen blood, collected from himself and his students.
Hussaini’s family announced his passing through a Facebook post, stating that his mortal remains would be kept at his Besant Nagar residence, “High Command,” until the evening for public homage. The body was later transported to Madurai for final rites. Throughout his illness, Hussaini documented his journey on social media, inspiring many with his resilience. His openness led the Tamil Nadu government to provide financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for his treatment.
Shihan Hussaini is survived by his wife and daughter. His multifaceted contributions to cinema, martial arts, and society have left an indelible mark, ensuring his legacy endures.
