The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is expected to resume on May 16 or 17, with the final tentatively scheduled for June 1. The decision comes after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, following days of escalating cross-border tensions triggered by India’s missile retaliation on terrorist camps in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
The BCCI has accelerated talks with franchises, broadcasters, and the government to finalize the schedule. However, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens may miss out on hosting the final due to predicted thunderstorms. Ahmedabad is likely to step in as the alternative venue.
The IPL was suspended on May 9 after the PBKS vs DC match in Dharamshala was halted midway due to security threats. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that consultations are ongoing, and the final schedule will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals may face a major blow with Mitchell Starc unlikely to return, along with other Australian players like Josh Hazlewood, who is reportedly nursing a shoulder injury. Both were seen heading home, casting doubts over their availability.
Despite the uncertainty, Gujarat Titans have resumed training in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to do so post-suspension. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians’ Ryan Rickelton opted for a cultural break, visiting the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
There is also speculation that double-headers will be introduced to make up for lost time, and the fate of the unfinished PBKS vs DC match will likely see it resume from the 10.1 over mark.
In a related development, Virat Kohli shocked fans by announcing his retirement from Test cricket, adding another emotional chapter to a season already packed with drama and disruption.
